SJI mourns the death of alum Sekou Smith

The SJI family joins the sports world in mourning the passing of Sekou Smith on Jan. 26. Smith, who was a member of SJI’s third class, in 1995, died after a battle with COVID-19. Smith, 48, was a longtime NBA reporter and analyst. Golden State coach Steve Kerr called the news of Smith’s passing “crushing,” adding, “Sekou has been part of the NBA family for a long time.” We at SJI echo that sentiment and will keep our brother in our hearts forever.
