Mr. Carter earns 2022 Red Smith Award, APSE's top honor

SJI co-founder Leon Carter was named the 2022 Red Smith Award winner for the Associated Press Sports Editors, the highest honor in the organization.
Carter, with Sandy Rosenbush, created an institute in 1992 that would change the lives of over 350 alums for an industry in need of diversifying the nation's sports departments.
Carter is only the third Black journalist who received the award since it began in 1981.
