Sports Journalism Institute

Helping women and minorities get into newsrooms since 1993

Madisen Carter

My name is Madisen Carter and I am an incoming senior at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. I am originally from Sacramento, California, but I moved to Arizona to attend ASU in the fall of 2016. During my time at ASU, I have taken many classes and have met people who have helped me become a better storyteller, reporter and videographer. I have been a sports fan for as long as I can remember, as I grew up watching football, basketball and baseball with my family. Sports has always been the main topic of discussion and what brings us all together. I knew I wanted to become a sports journalist when I got into high school and joined all the journalism and multi-media classes. Writing and reporting about sports just felt natural to me, so I decided to pursue my career in sports journalism, and I learn something new every day. Through SJI, I hope to become a strong reporter and writer. My main goal is to become a better storyteller and know all the right angles I should be taking in each story I take on. I am excited to learn and become better. This summer I will be interning with the Gannett Digital Optimization Team in Phoenix.
