Sports Journalism Institute

Helping women and minorities get into newsrooms since 1993

Ariana Taylor

When I was in the third grade, I wrote a short story. My mother surprised me by taking my story and published it in a book form with a cover. I was very proud of that book. Since that moment, I always knew I wanted to be a writer. When I went to high school, I realized that journalism is the writing that I am most passionate about. When I went to college, I realized that I can combine two things I love, sports and journalism, into a career.
I currently am a senior at Michigan State University, majoring in sports journalism. I was born and raised in Detroit, and I have an undying love for my city, even if the sports teams continuously break my heart. While in East Lansing, I am an intern for SB Nation’s MSU affiliate, The Only Colors. I cover MSU football, men’s and women’s basketball and hockey.
This summer, after being accepted into the 2019 class of the Sports Journalism Institute, I will be interning at the Knoxville News Sentinel in Tennessee.
Through several internships and jobs, I’ve learned that journalism is my passion and that my purpose includes using my platform to tell others’ stories.
