Helping women and minorities get into newsrooms since 1993

My name is Angel Franco and I am an incoming senior at Texas A&M, where I’m also the sports editor for The Battalion. I joined the Battalion when I arrived at A&M in 2015, and have been the sports editor since 2016. I’m the first Latina sports editor at the newspaper and just fourth woman in school history to hold the position, as well as the first in 20 years). There are a lot of things I want to do this coming year to make sure I am well-prepared to enter the job market, and that my successor at The Battalion is in a good position to succeed. I am looking to my SJI experience, and my summer as an intern with the USA Today Network-Nashville, as an important part of getting me ready. As an only child, I love to talk and interact with people and love to tell their stories. All that made my decision to be a journalist an easy one. My parents and I share a love of sports, which also made my choice feel like the right one.
