Memorial Day weekend is one of my favorites of the year. It’s the kickoff for the summer, and I always have some of the best barbecue during the weekend.
Kansas City was hot and humid on Memorial Day, but when I walked into Gates Bar-B-Q, my mind was off the weather. I knew I was in the presence of greatness. The smells of ribs and pork made me amped for some good food.
I don’t have an amazing barbecue restaurant back home in Cleveland to go to, so I always appreciate tasty barbecue from other areas.
I tend to order what I know wherever I go, so I ordered a pork sandwich and fries. Still, even the pork sandwich was different than what I’m used to. It was more like a ham sandwich as opposed to a pulled pork sandwich.
If I had to order something different, I probably would have tried the ribs. I haven’t had ribs in a while, but it’s easily one of my favorite foods. Even so, I appreciated the experience of eating quality barbecue with my new friends at SJI.
