Phillips named journalist of year in Philadelphia

2011 alum Carron Phillips was named Journalist of the Year by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. The Morehouse and Syracuse graduate is an engagement editor at the News Journal in Delaware. He will be honored at a ceremony in Philadelphia on Oct. 22.
“It’s a testament to having unwavering faith in God. Believing in yourself and working hard, and being grateful for all the help I’ve had along the way,” Phillips said. “It’s a product of what all my mentors and colleagues have invested in me over my career.”
Phillips, who also participated in the 2014-2015 Associated Press Sports Editors Diversity Fellowship Program, served as a mentor for the 2015 SJI Class.
“The SJI family is very proud of Carron’s achievement,” said Gregory Lee, a 1994 alum and SJI board member. “He is a tremendous journalist and a man with strong conviction.”
