The 23rd class gets through boot camp

The Class of 2015 completed its boot camp learning session at the University of Missouri School of Journalism on June 6 and is en route to a busy summer at internships around the country. Thanks to our always amazing hosts at Missouri, Tom Warhover and Greg Bowers, and to our other partners at APSE,, ESPN and Disney, AWSM, NABJ and NAHJ for the support and help with the class. Thanks as well to the St. Louis Cardinals and VP of communications Ron Watermon for hosting the class for the Dodgers-Cardinals game on May 31—the experience was great and the learning invaluable. Thank you too to’s Jim Jenks and Carlton Thompson for joining us in St. Louis.
And special thanks to all our speakers—from ESPN’s Jason Whitlock, to APSE president and Oklahoma sports editor Mike Sherman, to Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch, to Disney’s Anne LaBeaume and Amy Bennett, to the numerous Missouri School of Journalism faculty members who shared their expertise, to Scott Brooks of the Missouri Department of Sociology, who leads perhaps the most thought-provoking classes on race and sport that we’ve had in 22 years of SJI instruction. And thanks to all the others who shared their time and expertise, including numerous SJI alum.
Here’s to the 12 stars of the summer—the Class of 2015. Welcome to the family!
